copula

a verb (or verb-like) form with little independent meaning that is used to link the subject of the sentence to another noun phrase (or, in other languages such as English, to an adjective). Korean copula sentences normally work to equate a subject ‘A’ to another noun phrase ‘B’ to give constructions that translate as ‘A is B’.
